The wonderful destination recommended on this occasion has the privilege of being located in the insular zone of Cartagena de Indias and is called Punta Arena, located on the island of Tierrabomba. It is a beautiful “paradise” of soft white sand, and is located right in front of the city. More plans to enjoy Cartagena de Indias here.

It is this beautiful island that can be seen from the beautiful beaches of Bocagrande, Castillogrande and El Laguito. At night, we contemplate from Cartagena, the lights that illuminate the houses of the inhabitants of Punta Arena, and that from afar call the attention of the most unsuspecting.

It is a place that invites you to stay longer than expected, as there is so much to do. It is an ideal place to spend a relaxing day, enjoy freshly caught seafood, practice water sports and sunbathe.

As soon as I got into the cab outside the hotel -at 8 a.m. – on my way to the boarding point, I predicted a very good Saturday. The sun’s rays showed that it was the right day to tan my beautiful, shapely legs. When I arrived at the beaches of Castillogrande, exactly behind the Nuevo Hospital Bocagrande, some people came to offer me their services, with the guarantee of picking me up in the afternoon, to bring me back. They gave me a life jacket and we left in a speedboat with another group of strangers. The distance is very short, since in five minutes I was already in this “paradisiacal land” of white sand.

The trip is quite safe since it takes place inside the bay and not in the open sea. In addition to being safe, this plan is quite economical, since the cost of both trips – round trip – is about 12,000 pesos per person. After looking at Cartagena de Indias like a curtain, and seeing the cargo ships and a few cruise ships arriving in the port of Cartagena, I decided to put on my hat, grab my camera, go for a walk around the island and also enter the village. There I learned a little more about the customs of the people, their culture, their way of life, their traditions and even the slang of the people. I was struck by the tranquility that reigns in the streets and, in addition, five hotels that offer good deals for those who wish to spend a day or more than one night in this charming place where time seems to flow very easily. Shortly before noon, I returned to the bohío and had the privilege of buying from Mrs. Telmira Villa, a delicious cocada of passion fruit, a tamarind ball and a caballito of papaya for a thousand pesos each. Deni Castro, the seller of fresh oysters, extracted from the rocks of the island of Baru or from the mangroves, could not be missed. William is another vendor, perhaps the youngest, who daily walks the shore of the beach displaying eye-catching necklaces and bracelets made from materials such as snail, coconut and bamboo. They all approached me in a friendly manner to offer me their products.

At 12:30, a delicious typical menu arrived at my table: crispy fried red snapper, patacones, salad and delicious coconut rice and fish soups. I decided to accompany it with a cold Colombian beer. Dishes start at 17,000 pesos, depending on the type of fish you choose, be it mojarra, sierra or pargo. The return time was at 4 pm, and I had the privilege of enjoying one of the best sunsets in the Caribbean.

Therefore, I invite all those who come to Cartagena de Indias to include Punta Arena in their plans. You will not regret this experience at sea.
